Our moon images come from the NASA Scientific Visualization Studio, calculated from Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter terrain data. Not a photo, not an illustration — a scientifically accurate rendering of the lunar surface: craters, light, shadow, even the faint earthshine on the dark side, exactly as it looked that night.
